STORYLINE:
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said on Monday that her country would continue to take in "those who are deemed to be refugees" from Indonesia.
Bishop made her comments at the opening of the new Australian Embassy in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
Bishop is in Indonesia to co-chair "The Bali Process" meeting on how to address human trafficking and crime, which is scheduled for Wednesday in Bali.
Speaking on the issue, the Foreign Minister urged countries involved in the process to play a role in stopping the people smuggling trade.
Bishop also commented on the latest incident involving the alleged illegal fishing of a Chinese boat in Indonesian waters at the weekend.
Indonesian officials patrolling in the Natuna Sea intercepted the Chinese vessel Kway Fey and detained its eight crew members.
A Chinese coastguard boat then intervened, according to the Indonesian authorities.
Bishop reiterated that all countries must adhere to international legal principles and there should be freedom of navigation and "freedom of overflight" in the South China Seas.
