As thousands of students across Sacramento County start their summer break this week, many families are concerned about affording groceries. During the school year, many students receive free meals on campus thanks to government programs, but those daily meals and childcare aren't available when summer hits. The Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services said due to ongoing issues from the pandemic and increasing inflation, they are expecting record demand for food this summer.
