2024 CFMoto 450MT: First Ride 4K
This is a follow up to my 'First Look' video, where I try out a CFMoto 450MT. I have to give a big thank you to Murray, for not only offering his bike to me to do the video but also for coming up to see me and then letting me ride it for the day. He is a gentleman!
It's a ride around my part of the UK, the Peak District National Park. All on-road I'm afraid, but then, it's not my bike and it's also still in it's running period. I initially thought this might be as low as 4000rpm, but later Murray confirmed that 5500-6000 was ok, particularly as the bike was getting close to 400 miles on the clock.
I've been following the progress (and rise) of CFMoto at EICMA since 2021. They have a long standing partnership with KTM and the quality and design of the motorcycles reflects this.
For a long time, bikes have been getting bigger, heavier, more powerful and more expensive and for a while the choice has been if you'd like a 200kg+ 650-900 or a 240kg+1000-1300 adventure bike. There are still lightweight options out there, but they are either high maintenance, low performance or too specialised for one type of riding.
I think the gap the 450MT fills is one of a nicely spec'd, low cost, adventure motorcycle with enough power for the roads. Right now (August 2024), if you can get one, these cost £5699 in the UK. A CRF300 Rally is £6579 and a Himalayan 450 is £6250 with tubeless wheels (if you can get one) and £5850 without and a Honda NX500 (perhaps it's closest competitor?) is £6829.
The standard spec of the 450MT includes 21" front and 18" tubeless wheels, articulated brake and gear levers, sump guard, rear rack with guard rails, USB charger, Nav bar, adjustable windscreen, Bosch traction control and ABS, and LED lighting. For £5699 I think there is nothing that comes close.
As you can probably tell, I am a fan, and I think this bike looks really good. That said, there are supply problems. I ordered my bike on January 6th 2024 and as of 4th August 2024, have only received a verbal communication from the dealer that it's coming in September. In contrast, the bike in the video was ordered at the end of March and was delivered in early July. I'm paying the full price for my bike and I certainly don't expect any special treatment, but I do expect fairness as would any other customer. Perhaps I was unlucky and my bike was allocated elsewhere. If I find out what happened, and what CFMoto and KTM are doing to improve the order process, I will share it.
