Exclusive Interview With Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai On From Hijab To Textbook Row.
On January 1, some Muslim students of pre-university college in Karnataka’s Udupi were not allowed to attend classes wearing a hijab, as the dress was against the prescribed norms of the college. The College Development Committee president, BJP MLA Ragupathi Bhat, said students who are protesting and sitting outside [the campus] are 'free to leave'.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has disbanded the textbook review committee amid allegations that the BJP government was trying to saffronise education in the state. In a statement, CM Bommai said the textbook review committee had been dissolved as its designated work was completed. He said the government was open to further revision if there is any objectionable content.
