Big honors for a small beer maker here in the mountains.
Bearwaters Brewing Company in Waynesville won two gold medals at the US Open Beer Championships in Atlanta this past weekend.
It entered just two types of beer, the Sliding Rock Ale and the Minorcan Porter.
The Sliding Rock took the gold in the English Mild Ale Category.
The Minorcan Porter took the top spot in the Specialty-Anything Goes category.
Head brewer Greg Kidd says the medals bring welcome attention.
Greg Kidd, Bearwaters Brewing Company, "with this kind of recognition, we can count on more people choosing to come in here and perhaps trying our beer. With that, we can earn a larger fan base."
More than 1600 beers from across the country were entered in the home brewing competition.
The Sliding Rock Ale is the first beer to be canned in Haywood County.
The Minorcan Porter was made in collaboration with the Asheville Brewing Company.
