Indian and Pakistani forces shelled each other along their disputed border in Kashmir for the sixth successive day on Tuesday (4/8). More than 100 people have died in the fighting on both sides of the border. There have been contradictory accounts of the intensity of the artillery duel with India accusing Pakistan of exaggerating the issue to try and exacerbate international worries over the 50-year dispute over Kashmir. Indian and Pakistani troops are separated by a 1,300-kilometre Line Of Control, a de-facto border.
