A massive 5.3-tonne bomb dropped by the RAF in 1945 has exploded in Poland as naval divers tried to disarm it.

The 6m “Tallboy”, dropped during a raid on a German battle cruiser, was discovered in a busy navigation canal between the Oder river and the Baltic Sea.

Divers were burning through its 2.5-tonne explosive charge using a remote-controlled device when the ordnance detonated. No divers were hurt during the operation.
