A look at Castillo San Felipe de Baraja in Cartagena, Colombia. the fort was built by the Spanish in 1536 on a strategic location on the Hill of San Lázaro. The fort has been attacked numerous times, falling to a French privateer in 1697. In 1741 a large British force was defeated by defenders of the fort, despite greatly outnumbering the Spanish, in what was an ill-judged attack.
Today the fort offers commanding views of the city of Cartagena and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
