With the great success of technological advances with Data and the indubitable expansion of the networking sphere online, come online fake news as one of the most dangerous social phenomena, qualified by Axel Peytavin a « disease ». So how can we, as a society, harness its consequences and fight against fake new? During this talk, Axel demonstrates how this issue eventually leads to the spread of conspiracy theories while diving into the psychological mechanisms that are responsible for it and suggests a few solutions As a brilliant student at both CentraleSupélec and Stanford universities, two of the most prestigious universities worldwide, Axel Peytavin is keen about social media recommendations' algorithms, their way of spreading information all over the web and the study of how they polarize people’s opinions. Alongside his big interest in data, Axel also volunteers as computational modeler for The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization that puts advanced technologies into ridding oceans of plastic.
