Corruption is a prevalent topic in many countries, and it clearly affects the people, especially the marginalized. With the rise of technology, it is due time to use it to our advantage. Our phones are weapons to fight corruption. We are now privileged to be guided by laws of transparency which means we can access government data and check it for discrepancies. No matter how big or small the money that is taken from the treasury, it is a sin against the people of the nation.
Together with my team, we created the short video ‘Young People’s Use of Technology to Fight Corruption’ as a movement to advocate change starting from gaining consciousness of the contemporary issues the government is facing. We are optimistic that the video itself would speak the unspeakable truth of how rampant corruption is—how it rubs off the basic rights of the people. And we hope to bring empowerment for you to take part in guarding our taxes, the treasury, and where our money goes.
That being said, I’d like to leave a quotation by Dr. Jose Rizal, national hero of the Philippines, ‘ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan’ or ‘the youth is the hope of the nation.’ To young people, I am speaking directly to you, let’s be the start of change because we are the voice of our generation, the hope of our nation.
