Funded by the Agroecology Fund, the project “Building Local Economies in East Africa Through Agroecology” aims to boost local economies and improve the livelihoods of local communities in selected territories in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Democratic Republic of Congo by strengthening farmers’ knowledge about agroecological farming and its practices.
Through this forum, Slow Food intends to share project achievements and provide documented evidence of the centrality of agroecological food systems to advance agroecology as the future of farming in Africa and globally.
The three cases studies on Slow Food agroecological methodologies will be presented. An open discussion will follow by involving AFSA, the project partners and the wider Slow Food network in order to co-create and amplify knowledge about agroecology.
Speakers:
Joseph Karangathi Njoroge, Kenya, expert in monitoring and evaluation focused on natural resource management, food security, climate change led the case study in Kenya.
Geofrey Gabiri, Uganda, PhD in natural resources management and an over 10 years’ experience in working with local communities in sustainable agriculture led the case studies in Uganda.
Charles Mulozi Olweny, Uganda, human right defender and development practitioner working with Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) as an advocacy and campaign coordinator.
Moderator: Neema Komba, Tanzania, national facilitator for Slow Food in Tanzania, teacher and trainer, marketing and human resources management expert with extensive experience in research and consultancy.
