Explanation of processes and materials:
00:15 Brass plate
00:26 Grinding the plate (P150-600)
00:50 Painting the plate. I am using an alkyd aerosol gray primer. It adheres better to metal. Drying with a hairdryer
01:04 I paint the plate with an alkyd spray white primer. A second coat of white primer is needed for additional protection of the metal. It is more convenient to draw on white. Drying with a hairdryer
The paint dries 24 hours
01:15 I use black carbon paper to transfer the drawing to a primer
01:33 I scratch the primer with a sharp metal needle and knife
01:51 I additionally clean the metal surface. I use P1200 abrasive paper
02:04 I fill the plate with ferric chloride solution. Solution concentration: 1kg dry ferric chloride / 1l water.
Etching time in ferric chloride 6 hours at a solution temperature of 4-5 degrees Celsius
02:21 I add soda to clean water. Soda neutralizes ferric chloride
02:32 My plate in a soda solution
02:46 I use a solvent like acetone to remove the primer from the plate
03:11 For the contrast of the picture, I apply a liquid for quick bluing of metal on the metal
03:28 Sanding plate with abrasive paper P1200
03:36 I apply aerosol lubricant to protect the metal from oxidation
