Most Sat-nav systems in Japan use either Windows CE or a custom platform however I wanted a system that would offer off-line navigation and ease of use when it came to multimedia. There goes any Apple product out of the window then. So Android it was. The problem is that there are no off-line navigation apps for Android that feature Japan. This is due to the map data being hogged by Japanese companies who don't want the likes of Tom Tom to use it or so the story goes. The bigger problem is that no Japanese company makes an off-line sat-nav for Android. That was until I found out about the X-Ride system.
