* The National Institute for Communicable Diseases says 2-thousand-967 new coronavirus cases have been reported in the past day. 124 more people have succumbed to COVID-19 related complications. This puts the national death toll at 86 500.
* President Cyril Ramaphosa has meanwhile called on the United Nations to put the issue of reparation for victims of the slave trade on its agenda. He was speaking virtually at the 20th anniversary commemorative event of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action - after South Africa hosted the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance in 2001.
* Former president Jacob Zuma's corruption trial, relating to the arms deal of the late 1990's has been postponed to the 26th of October 2021. Judge Piet Koen is expected to deliver his judgment on Zuma's special plea, to have state prosecutor Billy Downer removed as prosecutor from the trial.
* The new South African Airways flights have returned to the skies after being grounded since 2020. Flight operations on the Johannesburg-Cape Town route resumed Thursday morning.
