For the first time this year, the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival is putting on a nighttime spectacular, a six-minute display of laser lights and perfectly timed pyrotechnics. The show is held twice every night, beginning once at 7 o’clock and then again at 9 o’clock, at the south side of Zhongzheng Bridge over the Love River. A salvo of fireworks kicks off the show, followed by laser lights sweeping across the night sky. Kaohsiung’s Love River provides the stage for this tapestry of color and magic. As Taiwan’s first light and laser show to be held on the water, the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival began on the third day of the Lunar New Year, and has been held every evening since at 7 o’clock and 9 o’clock, attracting crowds of people to the Love River waterfront. After watching the show, you can walk through a hundred-meter-long sea of lanterns at the site. This year, being the Year of the Dog, some lanterns have a dog theme. The show will help usher in the Lantern Festival, which falls on March 2 this year.Up in the sky, floating lanterns sway in the night breeze as if waving to the throngs of people below. This year the southern port city’s got the water, land, and air all covered. You can catch the show every night through March 3.
