Drawing from the work of Dr. Cornelis Venema, Jeremy Boothby unpacks Paul's use of Leviticus 18:5 and critically engages the Reformed Baptist conception of a substantial republication of the Covenant of Works under Moses. In the context of his polemic against the Judaizers, Paul presents the "naked law" of condemnation for whosoever would justify himself. More broadly considered, however, Paul understands the Old Testament law as God's proclamation of grace for his people and as a path of life for the regenerate.
