3 Bronze: Cedric Noger (Switzerland) - 2:13.39
Giulio Giovanni Bosca became the winner of the 28th World Winter Universiade in giant slalom.
Despite the cold weather (it was -15 °C at Shymbulak today) and a heavy snowfall, many spectators have come to enjoy the competition in giant slalom. 92 athletes from 32 countries participated in the tournament initially. Only 68 of them managed to successfully finish the second stage.
“I feel amazing, the hill was great. I am happy to be participating in the competition and to have achieved such a result. I dedicate my victory to my skiing club and my coaches,” said Giuliuo Bosca during the press conference.
The winners noted the festive atmosphere of the competition, a good hill and the high level of organization.
“I am happy to have won the second place. The visibility in the second race was poor. I did everything I could though to show a good result. Allow me to congratulate my fellow athletes with the gold and the bronze medal,” said Joel Mueller.
When athletes were asked if they were planning to participate in the 2019 Krasnoyarsk Universiade, all of them replied: “No, we will be too old by then.”
Among the Kazakhstani athletes, Zakhar Kuchin showed the best result. He was number 44 in the competition. His time was Из 2:22.38.
“It was an amazing day for us as well as the winners. We had to get get up at 4 in morning and prepare the hill until 6. By 8 am, we were prepared to start the competition. The conditions today were great. The hill was good too. Many thanks to the staff of Shymbulak. I hope we will continue in the same mood. It is also very important that there are representatives of different countries among the participants. They all support the sporting spirit of the competition and contribute to the popularity of sport. I would like to congratulate everyone on such a great event,” said Urs Scheubach, the FIS Technical Delegate.
