The EU has implemented tariffs of up to 45% on electric vehicles imported from China to counter subsidies that benefit Chinese automakers. Aimed at protecting European automakers, these tariffs will remain for five years and add to the existing 10% import duty. Some European automakers warn of potential retaliation.

Both U.S. and EU tariffs will force Chinese producers to diversify supply chains and set up production facilities outside of China.
