We gifted this cake for our niece last year for her First Holy Communion 🕊️
The original design (not ours) was sent in my sister with a few changes.
We used a 6” tall chocolate cake.
-For the blessed sacrament topper you can always make it a week or couple in advance. The more hot glue the stronger it’ll hold. If the glue is over heated it’ll lay flat instead of creating rays(you know what I mean) Also Try not to over pipe it as this also will result in less detail in the final product.
-The wires and the cardboard centre provide a great structure to hold all the hot glue together.
-I got a few requests from my earlier posts asking if i had a tutorial for grapes so i thought id add them too in here. To make the grapes I had to use foil as an alternative. Usually you can also use rices krispies treats which makes the topper completely edible. Since I was busy with more bookings I took the easy option.
-The colour of the cake was requested In lilac hence the Lord’s Prayer was printed on to a lilac sheet. If you’d like the same print you’ll find it on the link below. I will also add another link to a white sheet with the same as a lot of ppl prefer white cakes for a First Holy Communion. I used two of the edible sheets one on the front and the other on to the back.
-I have a feeling I’ll be asked about the lace embosser I used for the board… I purchased this tool from a Cake exhibition in London somewhere back in 2010.
I’ve had requests from viewers asking me about the weights of toppers. Ive never worked that way. Everything is always eyeballed according to the size of the cake it goes on. Ive been doing this way for years and even though I’ve tried it I’ve found its very difficult for me to follow the weight method.
