The Last of Us Part II is an upcoming action-adventure survival horror video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4. It was announced at the PlayStation Experience event in December 2016, and will serve as the sequel to 2013's The Last of Us.
Development of The Last of Us Part II began in 2014, and commenced motion capture in 2017. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson reprise their roles as Joel and Ellie, respectively. The game's story is written by Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross. Gustavo Santaolalla returns to compose and perform the score. Bruce Straley, who acted as game director on The Last of Us, will not return to co-direct Part II due to his departure from the company.
The game was announced at the PlayStation Experience event in December 2016, and serves as a sequel to the 2013 game The Last of Us. The first trailer revealed the return of Ellie and Joel, whose story takes place five years after the first game; players will assume control of Ellie. In contrast with the first installment, which was centered around love, Druckmann has stated that this game will be centered around hate. The game's second trailer was released on October 30, 2017, as part of Paris Games Week. The trailer revealed four new characters: Yara (played by Victoria Grace), Lev (Ian Alexander), Emily (Emily Swallow), and an unnamed character played by Laura Bailey.
