The Boat Bar is one of the most popular places along this 7 mile long beach and is open everyday from November to May with Live Music starting in December on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays....also musicians/singers who are visiting from around the world can join in with the band...its my favourite place to enjoy live Reggae music.

The host is Otis Gayle, an enormously talented and wonderful singer... He's a mainstay in the Negril music scene and The Boat Bar is must see whenever you're in Negril. Otis Gayle use to play with Byron Lee & the Dragonaires in the good old days…his orignal name was Leroy Gayle, but when he sang so many Otis Redding songs, people just naturally called him Otis. The house band includes the very best musicians: Banga, Dachy, Knoxley & Nick Nunes, the infamous Joe Isaac from Studio One fame...also, I'm a big fan of Frank Aird, the trumpet player. He's the finest, most intense and at times, a pain in the butt...trumpet player in Jamaica. He's worth watching and listening to... And, come see Pinky Dread perform...he may be the finest singer in all of Negril.

The first time I heard Pinky Dread sing was in 2014. I really liked his voice and thought it was one of the best in Negril. All these years later I can still say the same thing about his singing: He's really good! It wan't easy trying to find some info about this singer but I persisted and this is what I found...It's quite impressive. You can find Pinky playing a few times every week at The Boat Bar and other places along the beach..

George Henry aka Pinky Dread was born in Falmouth, Jamaica. He is the son of Hortense Ellis, also known as "Jamaica's First Lady of Songs" who was known for his work with Lee Scratch Perry, Bunny Lee and Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare. He is also the nephew of legendary singer-songwriter Alton Ellis, Jamaica's Godfather of Rocksteady. Pinky started singing when he was only 6 years old by singing at his church and school choirs. At the age of 12, he won a singing contest, the Jamaican Band Wagon, whose win allowed him to take the stage with none-other than legendary Bob Marley with whom he shared vocals in five songs. In the early 70s, Pinky started recording for the Twinkle Brothers Talent Agency. He accomplished this by winning another competition. He was then flown to England where he recorded two songs "Children Cry" and "Street of Babylon". In 1979, when he was 18 years old, he received a call from Newton Merit, Jimmy Cliff’s manager since he wanted him to audition for a spot on the Jimmy Cliff TV Show. Since then he has been recording and singing non-stop, touring Japan and Europe, but always coming back to his beloved Jamaica. You can find Pinky Dread performing all over Negril, Jamaica throughout the winter months at The Boat Bar, Roots Bamboo, Drifters, Chances, Bourbon Beach and other places around Jamaica.
