After spending probably 10ish hours flying the MiG-19P, figuring out what the Cold War sphere in DCS is about, and deciding I wanted to get more into it, I figured the best way to up my game, is to play it from the other side.
So thanks to the Lunar sale, I'm now the proud owner of an F-5E - It's definitely a very different experience to the MiG-19, and when it comes to dogfighting, the MiG-19 has it beat... By a LOT.
But thankfully, most RedFor players seem to prefer the MiG-21, which is a superior opportunity ambush fighter, but a pretty lousy dogfighter, so flying the F-5 against the MiG-21, is a lot like flying the MiG-19 against the F-5.
In short, it's a lot of fun - but I still need to work on my spotting, my gunnery/BFM tactics, and perhaps most importantly my communication with GCI - following calls is really the only way you'll ever find things to engage on this server; and as a life long "avoid people at all costs" introvert, this has been the biggest hang up for me.
But I'm happy to be able to say I'm getting over it, and I'm actually having a lot of fun in the process.
This community has been nothing but welcoming and I don't doubt I'll find friends amongst the regular players as I bump into them more frequently.
