The GST Council’s 45th meeting was held on September 17, 2021 in Lucknow and made recommendations involving changes to the law and several clarifications on varied issues. The footprint of the decisions impact cross-section of sectors – with decisions relating to rate change for various goods and services, correction of inverted duty anomalies, proposal to have food-delivery apps made liable to pay tax on the underlying restaurant services that are provided through it, clarifications on the scope of “intermediary service”, relevant date to determine input tax credit with respect to debit notes, clarifications refund availability for export goods with nil duty, etc.
These decisions will impact the Indian economy. It becomes important for stakeholders to familiarise themselves with these developments, as also understand the impact on business.
