A new luxury car has arrived, bringing the latest technology, astonishing design, and jaw-dropping performance—all at a price point you'd never expect from a luxury vehicle. This car is setting a new standard in its class. Introducing the Denza Z9 GT, a 5-door shooting brake offered in two powertrain options: a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and a full battery electric vehicle (BEV). Built from the ground up, the Denza Z9 GT is designed to compete in the top-tier luxury performance segment, taking on heavyweights like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Porsche Panamera, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Genesis G90, and Audi e-tron GT.
Despite being new to the competition, the Denza Z9 GT stands out with its powerful performance and cutting-edge technology, offering luxury features you wouldn’t expect at this price range. The base trim starts at $48,150, though it lacks air suspension, while the fully-loaded top trim comes in at $59,500. Comparatively, similar models from Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Porsche start at around $97,000 and can exceed $120,000 for fully-loaded versions. With this massive price gap—over $35,000 in some cases—can the Denza Z9 GT really deliver performance and quality that rivals its more expensive competitors? The Denza Z9 GT Wagon is the result of a collaboration between two of the biggest manufacturers: one from Europe and the other from China. The joint venture, known as "Denza," was established in 2010 between BYD and the Mercedes-Benz Group, with the goal of producing luxury electric cars. In 2014, Denza introduced its first model, the "Denza EV," which was initially sold in select Chinese cities. For several years, Mercedes-Benz held a 10% stake in the brand, but as of 2024, the company transferred its remaining stake to BYD, leaving the brand entirely under BYD's control.
Now fully owned by BYD, Denza is stepping up its game with the release of new models, including the Denza Z9 GT, which became available for purchase between August and September 2024. The Z9 GT isn’t just targeted at the Chinese market—it’s also aimed at European buyers, marking the brand's global expansion.
