Sri Lanka’s prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has agreed to resign hours after protestors stormed the president's official residence and swam in his pool.
Fellow party leaders demanded both he and the embattled Gotabaya Rajapaksa step down as thousands of people took to the streets of the country's commercial capital Colombo.
The island of 22 million is suffering under a severe foreign exchange shortage that has limited essential imports of fuel, food and medicine, plunging the country into the worst financial turmoil in seven decades.
