Bada Imambara is a historical heritage of Lucknow70,000, it is also known as Bhool Bhulaiya. It was built by Nawab Asif-ud-Daula of Awadh between (1784 -94). It is also known as Bhool Bhulaiya. This Imambara was built by Asif-ud-Daula in 1784 under the famine relief project. This huge dome-shaped hall is 50 meters long and 15 meters high. It is estimated that it cost five to ten lakh rupees to build it in those times. Not only this, even after the completion of this building, the Nawab used to spend four to five lakh rupees annually on its decoration. This huge dome-shaped building of Iranian construction style is worth seeing and feeling. It has been built in memory of the martyrdom of late Hussain Ali.  There are 84 stairs to reach the roof of the building which lead to a path that confuses an unknown person so that the unwanted person gets lost in it and cannot come out. That is why it is called Bhulbhulaiya. The imagination and craftsmanship of this building is amazing. Such windows have been made from where they can keep an eye on every person entering from the main gates, while the person sitting in the window cannot see him. Such arrangements have been made in the narrow paths to go up so that air and daylight keep coming in. The walls have been built with such technology that even if someone whispers, that voice can be heard clearly even from a distance. Standing on the roof, the view of Lucknow looks very beautiful. If you ever go to Lucknow, do see these, they are amazing.
This Imambara also has an Asfi Mosque where non-Muslims are not allowed to enter. There are two tall minarets in the courtyard of the mosque complex.
It has a world-famous Bhulbhulaiya, which used to prevent the unwanted entrant from losing his way.  It was built by the Nawab to deal with the famine that was ravaging the state. It also has a deep well.
