Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an important and vibrant forum of the region, which was initially formed to curb three evils namely extremism, international terrorism, and ethnic separatism but later long-term objectives included for promoting economic development and regional stability of the member states through shared identity and cooperation on the issues of mutual concern. Pakistan and India gained their permanent membership in SCO in 2017. India is hosting the SCO summit, as well as the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in May this year. On the invitation of his Indian counterpart Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is representing Pakistan in the CFM which is being held in Goa. Pakistan continues to participate in SCO meetings, as recently, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman represented the country in the 4th SCO meeting, held virtually in New Delhi. The National Disaster Management Authority director also participated virtually in the SCO expert meeting.
