The road built in 1894, the Gamle Strynefjellsvegen is the shortest route from Grotli to Nordfjorden. It is located at an altitude of more than 1000 meters, and its length is 27 kilometers.
It is not the main road, since now it is replaced by a wider and safer road number 15. So for the winter it is not cleared of snow and is closed. Traveling along the Gamle Strynefjellsvegen (Fylkesvei 258) is possible from the end of May to October, depending on the weather.
A trip along it guarantees an unforgettable experience - you will see magnificent mountain scenery, blue glacial lakes and rivers, the stunning Videfossen waterfall, and the wonderful Hjelledalen valley. And you will also overcome many turns of serpentine on the descent or ascent, depending on the direction of your movement.
Also near the road is the Stryn Summer Ski Center (Stryn Sommerskisenter), open from late May to early July. We visited here at the beginning of September and along the road, we often met snow, which was not destined to melt this year.
And this is logical because only 500 meters above are mighty glaciers and the color of the lakes is deep blue, as they are fed by melted and very cold glacial water.
But this turquoise color fascinates and beckons. That is why we brought our kayaks with us because walking on the water is always a good idea! And it is especially pleasant to wave the oars at an altitude of 1000m surrounded by stunning nature!
In this video, we invite you to explore Gamle Strynefjellsvegen with us. And go kayaking on Langvatnet lake.
We are sure that having been here with us you will see that the Gamle Strynefjellsvegen is not in vain included in the list of national tourist roads in Norway. She is really wonderful!
We also hope that you enjoy this walk and write about it in the comments! In general, always feel free to ask questions and write wishes in the comments, we are VERY pleased to read them!;)
Thank you for traveling with us!
