Discover the Via Francigena in the Italian region of Piemonte!
The Via Francigena is a cultural itinerary of the Council of Europe that crosses 3200km throughout 5 European countries: United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Vatican City.
In this video we take you on a trip through the Italian region of Piemonte, or Piedmont in English. "Piemonte" literally means "at the foot of the mountain". And indeed, after the mountainous and hilly region of Valle d'Aosta, Piemonte is the first flat region you will be crossing on the Italian peninsula.
But don't be mistaken, although mostly flat, this region has loads to offer in terms of gastronomy, history, culture, and natural beauty! You will be crossing the world famous rice fields of Vercelli, and what about those famous Piemonte wines and cheeses?
The region of Piemonte also features a gorgeous Via Francigena variant which connects the Road to Rome to the camino di Santiago: the breathtaking Val di Susa. In the Val di Susa you will be able to visit the stunning Sacra di San Michele, which together with the Mont Saint Michel in France and Monte Sant'Angelo in Apulia, is part of the Sacred Line of Saint Michael the Archangel. This postulated ley line connects monasteries dedicated to the Archangel Michael in Europe and in the Middle East.
How about it? No time to lose: the Piemonte region is waiting for you!
