Wheat Research Institute Ayub Research Faisalabad has been performing very well in the development of new varieties. During 2021, this variety was approved for mid-season planting throughout Punjab. This variety looks very attractive during its vegetative and reproductive stages. That is why its name has been suggested as DILKASH meaning attractive. It has broad leaves, better tillering capacity, resistant against rust. It has medium to tall plant height of 112 Cm. It is partially lodging resistant variety. It performs better in central to north irrigated Punjab. Its ear is very attractive and yield potential is above 70 maunds per acre. It is strongly suggested to be incorporated as professional variety in wheat production system.
It can not categorically be declared that this one is the best. Some of the wheat varieties perform better in north, some in central and others in south Punjab. Abar 2019, Bhaker Star, Fakhr e Bhaker and Gazi 2019 have been performing well in their respective zone of wheat production. In this video, considering soil and environmental as ideal, we have declared Dilkash 2021 as the king and highest yielder variety of the coming years.
Wheat plant is an important cash crop of Punjab. Seed variety performs a vital character in better yield of wheat. If we select a effective variety, it will resist different forms of disease attacks like kungi and rust etc. Selection of proper and effective wheat variety for a general soil health and location are among the key major factors to obtain higher production rate. Seed variety should be heat and cold resistant so that it may perform better in all the temperatures, when temperature rises at the end stage of crop. Seed should have bacterial resistive character so that it may not become a hunt of a disease like rust. Outdated varieties should not be planted because it becomes less resistant to different diseases. New varieties more effectively bear the effects of herbicides used for weed control.
