Senator Matt Canavan says the Labor Party is now the party of “inner city, well educated, urban elites” with no connection to its working class roots.

Mr Canavan said Labor “just adopted a policy that wants to shrink (Australia) and make our country poorer” which is a mistake it has made “a few times”.

This policy announcement represents a “fundamental paradigm shift in what the Labor Party stands for”.

Mr Cannavan told Sky News host Labor has not produced any costings or numbers for the policy because “they know that’s exactly what the numbers will show and they’re embarrassed about it”.

“The Australian Labor Party … is no longer representative of laborers at all”.
