The first step is to clean the main surface area. Clay Bar when necessary also put a big focus on the edges to ensure a long term hold. Open the doors to clean the inside area as the material will be wrapped here as well. Once the main surface area has been cleaned, place masking tape on edges where the material needs to be tucked deep to lower the surface energy and also add 3M Knifeless Tape. This is to avoid having to use a knife on these tricky to cut areas, as well as directly on the body. It is also highly recommended to put 3M Knifeless tape around tight rubber that is often around the windows to ensure that these areas don't get cut with a knife.
Now it's time for install and to prep the panel. Make sure you have enough of the SUV Vinyl Door Wrap film from Rvinyl, the covers top to bottom, left to right. Carefully roll the panel out on the side of the vehicle, then using magnets, hold it in place, then take what's called a Snitty and trim away the excess film. Always give yourself an extra three to four inches of film on all edges, so you can safely tuck the film in and work it evenly onto the surface.
We'll begin with the back open the door so the material can be tucked inside the body. Release the liner at the very end. Cut the excess liner away with a Snitty, crease the liner, so it's easy to grab once this section has been applied, then carefully flip the film over and hook it on the corner. Once it's hooked on the corner, then the material can be stretched along the lower portion of the back fender. Here it's being hooked on the bumper side.
Once the lower half of the back fender has been applied, it's time to work the material on the upper portion. Hook the corner at the top to evenly spread out the material. Used an application glove and form it into the recessed area. Once that section is done, continue the squeezing process, allowing the air to escape on the outside edge. Now it's time to apply the material on the door side area. Hook the corner first, then feed the film into the recessed area on the side. Don't bridge the material and push it in. Once the material has been properly fed into this gap, which means there is no tension on the film, then it can be cut away with the 3M Knifeless Tape.
Once at the front hook, the corners, this will help ensure a strong corner game, and once the corners are hooked, then create glass again on the main surface and then squeegee. Next, tuck the material in at the top. The masking tape along the roof rack allows the film to slide safely in the gap. That's why it's very important to add masking tape at the beginning during the prep phase.
And with the top set now, focus on the lower section of the top area of the back fender. Take an application glove. Run it from side to side through the material evenly bridges the gap. And now it's time to move on to cutting away the excess film around this area.
Once the film is lifted up from this edge, simply tuck it into the gap with the tucking tool again. The masking tape again allows the film to tuck in their nice and safe. And now to get the material behind the molding around this back section used to two tucking tools. The blue one is stiff and the red one is soft, so the blue one pulls the rubber away from the body and the red one tucks it behind. This is a great way to get solid finishing and great coverage, all without having to use the knife on this very sensitive area.
Now we move on to the back bumper area where the Knifeless Tape is again released. It was placed on the bumper side of this gap. So as the excess film has been pulled away, the material can be tucked inside the gap again with a soft tucking tool for full coverage.
For the area above the wheel, well, there's molding. So the material is picked up tucked into the gap and then cuts safely away with a knife. Always make sure you click the blade before cutting to ensure a safe cut and tuck it deep into the gap. Now we move on to the gas cap. The material bridges the gas cap area, so it's very important to feed the mouth feed in the mouth means pulling the material into the recessed area first, so there's a minimal tension tuck it to the edge and then cut it safely away with a very sharp knife. Once the excess film has been removed, come back in and seal the deal with the tucking tool. This means that the install portion on the back fender is done, but it's very important to find a strong which means going around all the edges with a gun to make sure they're fully sealed and go over the main surface area to make sure that there's no bubbles.
