Vera Schiff was born to a middle-class family in 1926 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where her family had lived for many generations. In 1942 the entire family was sent to the Theresienstadt ghetto, where all her relatives died, while she narrowly escaped deportation. In this excerpt, Vera describes their life in the ghetto, from living conditions to food and work.
