With detailed chemistry and autonomous meshing, CONVERGE is ideally suited to accurately and efficiently simulate in-cylinder combustion phenomena in engines such as this gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine. In this top-down view of a GDI engine cylinder, you can see the intake ports (right) open, allowing fresh air into the cylinder. Gasoline is then injected directly into the cylinder. The spark plug ignites the fuel-air mixture, and after combustion, the exhaust exits through the exhaust ports (left). The cut-plane is colored by temperature (blue=low, red=high), and the fuel spray was modeled using the Lagrangian solver. In the second view, the video is shown in slow motion to better visualize the moment of ignition. CONVERGE’s Adaptive Mesh Refinement allows you to capture large gradients in velocity and temperature in the cylinder, while simultaneously minimizing simulation runtime.
Convergent Science's CONVERGE is an innovative computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software that eliminates the grid generation bottleneck from the simulation process through autonomous meshing.
