Super Seeds Mukhwas Recipe:
If you grew up in Gujarati households, you would know that having mukhwas, also known as a mouth freshener, is a must after each and every meal. Here’s my healthier version of the mukhwas recipe, which incorporates the goodness of various seeds.
Ingredients:
1. 1 cup Sesame seeds (black and white) (1 tsp Salt, 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder, 1 tsp Lime juice, 1 tbsp Water)
2. 1/3 cup Fennel seeds + 1/3 Flax seeds + 1/3 Dill seeds + 1 tbsp Ajwain (carom seeds) (1 tsp Salt, 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder, 1 tsp Lime juice, 1 tbsp Water)
3. 1/4 cup Pumpkin seeds+ 1/4 cup Watermelon seeds ( little Salt, Turmeric powder, little Water)
4. Candied fennel (optional, for added color)
Procedure:
1. Take a bowl and combine sesame seeds, both black and white varieties.
2. Add salt, turmeric powder, lime juice, and water to the bowl. Mix well.
3. Allow the mixture to sit on the countertop for at least an hour.
4. In a separate bowl, combine fennel seeds, flax seeds, dill seeds, and ajwain.
5. Add salt, turmeric powder, lime juice, and water to the second bowl. Mix thoroughly.
6. Repeat the same process for pumpkin seeds and watermelon seeds, using separate bowls.
7. Take advantage of sunlight by placing all the bowls under direct sunlight. This will slightly reduce the roasting time.
8. Roast each bowl of seeds separately until they are lightly toasted and fragrant.
9. Once roasted, combine all the seeds in a single bowl.
10. For an extra burst of color, you can add candied fennel to the mixture (optional).
11. Your healthy mouth freshener is now ready to be enjoyed for a month.
