This 1922 piece is supposedly a transcription/arrangement of an “old melody” of which Guion (1892-1981) writes, “the first time I remember having heard it, was while trottin’ on my mother’s knees some twenty years ago, and again, at the Cowboys’ and Old Fiddlers’ dances and reunions in my old home in West Texas.” So why can’t I hear this anywhere on the internet except in Guion’s version? I found “Sheep and Goat” texts but not this tune.
