Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) remain a high concern within the military and veteran communities, accounting for 375,000 diagnosed TBIs since 2000. The goal of the presentation is to provide awareness to traumatic brain injuries and the resources available. The presentation will discuss what a traumatic brain injury (TBI) is, common causes, different forms of severities, with concussions being the leading form accounting of 83% of TBIs. We will discuss the expectations for recovery, complications that may arise and ways to prevent TBI. We will discuss the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) and the available resources from DVBIC and the community has to offer in seeking help and in the recovery process.
