So in this video we pull the upper table off, X or Y is up to you.
In this we see how much work will be needed. Clearly, much. The ways are painted, the hardware is rough, the gibs need to be drilled for the contact screws, the gibs actually need to be honed to flat.
Still the basic iron seems to be good.
So with all that said, after this video I pulled the handwheel off the X axis and found the same rust problem on the scale. Given that and the fact that the Y axis handwheel is too short in one critical dimension, I decided to exchange this table.
The fun thing is that Amazon has a good exchange process. The replacement table will be here in a few days.
So we will continue this examination with a second sample. Such fun. I hope that I will not have to get Amazon to give me a partial refund, but I really expect that this will be the case.
