Why not try this simple technique when you feel the very first feeling of asthma chest tightness? By changing your breathing you may be able to control the feelings of asthma without resorting to an inhaler.
This is a 4 minute talk-through using three rounds of Buteyko Mini-Pauses which can help to nip asthma attacks in the bud. The link to associated video with more information is here [ Ссылка ]
You should silently nose breathe throughout the practice.
Try this for couple of minutes.
Close your mouth so that you are breathing only through your nose. Resist the urge to open your mouth.
Take a couple of small nose breaths.
Now another small breath in … and out ... and pause .. count 1
small breath in ... and out ... and pause ... count 1 2
gentle breath in ... and out ... and pause ... count 1 2 3
in ... and out ... and pause ... count 1 2
and the last one in ... and out ... and pause ... count 1
Now just breathe normally and easily, try not to open your mouth as that brings cold, fast dry air into your airways.
Most with asthma over-breathe when they feel the first feeling of breathlessness and what we are trying to here is under-breathe or breathe a less than we would normally.
Now for the second round ….. relax ….
small breath in … and out and pause 1
breathe in and out and pause 1 2
easy breath in and out and pause 1 2 3
in and out and pause 1 2
and the last one in and out and pause 1
You may feel a strong desire to 'breathe more' and this is what we call ‘air hunger’. Try to relax into this feeling of air hunger, it’s not a pleasant feeling but it help if you can just accept it and go with it. If you’re feeling better you can stop here, but continue to listen if you’d like to do a third round.
Relax your shoulders and your chest ….
breathe in … and out and pause 1
gently in and out and pause 1 2
easily in and out and pause 1 2 3
in and out and pause 1 2
and the final one … in and out and pause 1
If you're still feeling breathless, or your airways feel like they’re tightening up then use your receiver inhaler or normal treatment as usual.
