assalamualaikum dear students in today's video we are going to answer this question why degree is not used with kelvin temperature whenever we are representing temperature in fahrenheit or celsius scale we use degree with temperature but when we want to express temperature in kelvin scale we do not use degree for example if we want to represent the boiling point of water we proceed as fall we say that the boiling point of water is 100 degrees celsius or we say that the boiling point of water is 212 degree fahrenheit so we have represented celsius in degree we have represent foreign height in degree but if we want to represent temperature in kelvin for example if we want to represent the same boiling point of water in kelvin temperature then we say that the boiling point of water in kelvin scale is 373 kelvin here you saw that with kelvin we didn't mention degree but we did mention it with fahrenheit and celsius or centigrade so the basic question that arises here is that why do we use degree with these two and why don't we use degree with kelvin so in today's video we are going to answer this question degree is defined as
the measurement of a quantity
along a certain scale
which may be
positive
or negative
this is the definition of degree what is degree this is the measurement of a quantity along a certain scale whose values may come out to be in positive in negative for example when we draw anything in axis like we are drawing angles this is x-axis
this is y-axis so whenever we draw a quantity like we are drawing angles it can have positive value in this direction and it can have negative values in this direction you know that angles may be positive angles may have negative values so that is the reason that angle can have positive as well as negative values so we represent angle in degree similarly if you are representing temperature in celsius scale or in fahrenheit scale it can have negative as well as a positive value for example
we say that the coolest region of the world like antarctica can have is lowest temperature is minus 80 degree and we say that the hottest place in the world like silicon valley can have is high temperature is 56 degrees celsius here you saw that the degree celsius is having value in negative as well as it is having value in positive like angles so degree is used with those quantity that can have negative value as well as a positive value likewise we represent whenever we represent temperature in fahrenheit scale we can have positive as well as negative values but this is not the case with kelvin whenever we are representing kelvin the lowest possible kelvin temperature is 0 kelvin and up till now even 0 kelvin has not been achieved so going into negative is still impossible so only value that we can have for kelvin temperature is up to zero and even this zero is also theoretical so all the values of temperature in kelvin scale comes out to be in positive and only positive things containing value cannot be represent by degree that is why we do not use degree with kelvin because it cannot have values in negative while degree celsius and degree fahrenheit uses degree because they these two can have value in positive as well as in negative so this was all about today's lecture if you have any question you can ask your question in comments thank you for watching this video
