Live, somewhat edited coverage of AJ Foyt's massive crash during the inaugural Michigan 500 in 1981.
This would be the second of three serious accidents that AJ would suffer in his amazing career. The first was at a NASCAR race in Riverside in the mid-1960s where he was temporarily pronounced dead. He would ultimately suffer a severe back injury in the crash, but would make a complete recovery. The last would come nearly a decade after this crash in an IndyCar race at Road America where he lost his brakes going into the first turn and would suffer severe leg and foot injuries, but, again, would make a complete recovery and come back to qualify on the front row in the following year's Indy 500. Super Tex's right arm would almost be amputated as a result of this particular crash, but he would fully recover to come back the following year and compete regularly, albeit a limited, oval-only schedule.
