Colin Kennaughperforms his song - 'Play by the Rules'
from his forthcoming album 'Life's not always sugar-coated'
Filmed by Jay Mckay of AVS Systems, Winchester
A song inspired by 'The Prodigal Son' story in The Bible
Through personal experience, I have found that we can amble on in life, thinking we are doing ok, but not truly having Peace of mind and Joy in our hearts.
For me that only 'truly' came when I started 'playing by the rules',
and learned how to stop going 'round' the same old mountain,
but actually read 'the manual' (The Bible) and THEN started 'climbing it'.
I suppose I'm 'singing a song to Jesus' and asking His forgiveness for my sinful. foolish ways
LYRICS
Think it's time for me to make my way home
Could you ever forgive me?
Burn my bridges and I'm standing alone
What would you say?
I could lie and make a dozen excuses
But tell me what would it solve?
Sick and tired of feeling hungry and useless
I was too involved
I've been staring at a 'pearl in a field'
But I'm not understanding
A wiser man than me
Would sell everything that he owned yeah yeah
How many times must you suffer the fool
I'm lucky your so patient
At last the Prodigal is learning to 'play by the Rules'
So if you find that you're in need of repentance
You know it's not too late
But in your mind you see a prison sentence
But don't hesitate
It always seemed that life was never easy
And the talk was cheap
But I was looking in the wrong direction
I was in too deep
I've been staring at a 'pearl in a field'
But I'm not understanding
A wiser man than me
Would sell everything that he owned yeah yeah
How many times must you suffer the fool
I'm lucky your so patient
At last the Prodigal is learning to 'play by the Rules'
