It's only two hours by train from Prague, Czech Republic to Dresden, Germany. The České dráhy (Czech Railways) trains are comfortable and not expensive. And the scenery between Děčín CZ and Bad Schandau DE is beautiful.
It's easy enough to book online, choose your seats and print your tickets. Our tickets in First Class were 700 Kč each including the seat reservation.
Trains depart from Praha hlavní nádraží (Prague Main Station) - when you arrive, the departure board indicates the platform. Once on the platform, there is a diagram of the train carriages and where they will stop - so you can plan to be in the right place when the train arrives.
The seats in the First Class carriage were arranged in a 1 - 2 formation. The seats were comfortable and there was plenty of room.
Each passenger in First Class receives a complimentary bottle of water. After that, the onboard staff will take your food and drinks order from the menu. If you are lucky, or have planned well, you benefit from 'happy hour' pricing. It really is happy hour when a 0.5l Gambrinus is reduced from 94 Kč to 39 Kč.
First Class was the last coach, so I had a great view from the rear window as the train travelled from Děčín (CZ) and Bad Schandau (DE).
