Sikkim Delegation on Educational Tour to Dharamshala for Dalai Lama's 89th Birthday Celebrations
Dharamshala, July 5, 2024: A group of 41 individuals from Sikkim, including representatives from the local Tibetan Assembly in Gangtok, executive members of the Six Tibetan Associations, and 28 college and school students from various parts of Sikkim, have arrived in Dharamshala for an educational exposure tour.
The group will participate in the celebration of the 89th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on July 6, with Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang attending as the Chief Guest. The tour aims to provide a deeper understanding of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and Tibetan culture and traditions.
Before embarking on the tour, the delegation met with Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang, who reiterated the government's commitment to supporting educational initiatives. He encouraged the students to make the most of this opportunity to learn about His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the spiritual environment of Dharamshala.
On the first day of their tour, the group visited the Norbulingka Temple in Dharamshala, where they explored Tibetan handlooms and handicrafts. Mr. Tenzing Tsephel, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for arranging this first-of-its-kind educational tour for Tibetan students from Sikkim. "We are honored to have such a thoughtful Chief Minister," he remarked.
The students also expressed their excitement and appreciation for this opportunity, viewing it as a blessing to learn about both Tibetan administration and their rich cultural heritage.
