Explorers flock to climb it, scientists study it closely, and the Nepalese call it the “Goddess of the Sky”. What makes Mount Everest so irresistible? Let’s climb to the top of the world to find out!
Today we will take a virtual field trip to the Royal Geographical Society in London, England! Alasdair MacLeod will take us through the Society's newest exhibition, "Everest Through the Lens", which marks 100 years since a number of famous British expeditions to Mount Everest in the 1920s. In particular, the exhibition explores how Captain John Noel’s films shaped the popular image of the mountain while sometimes obscuring the role of local intermediaries.
This livestream event is connected to Reach the World's "Expedition to Mount Everest" virtual exchange program, and is made possible by the generous support of the Citi e for Education campaign. Sign up to follow the whole journey at about.reachtheworld.org/explore.
