U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in Israel on Wednesday for meetings with Israeli leaders. Blinken also met with families of some Israeli hostages taken by Hamas militants during the attack on Israel on October 7 and told them to remain strong.

New York City police raided a Columbia University building being occupied by pro-Palestinian protesters and arrested dozens of them late Tuesday. Columbia’s president requested that police stay on campus until at least May 17, two days after graduation.

Clashes erupted early Wednesday between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protesters at a pro-Palestinian protest camp at the University of California, Los Angeles. Police were deployed to quell the violence.

The judge overseeing former U.S. President Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial fined him $9,000 for contempt of court on Tuesday and said he would consider jailing him if he continued to violate a gag order. Trump said the judge, Juan Merchan, had taken away his free speech rights.

Florida’s ban on most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy went into effect on Wednesday. The state’s Supreme Court cleared the way for the Republican-backed law but also ordered that a ballot measure legalizing abortion must go before voters this November.
