The judge overseeing former U.S. President Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial fined him $9,000 for contempt of court on Tuesday and said he would consider jailing him if he continued to violate a gag order. Trump said the judge, Juan Merchan, had taken away his free speech rights.
Florida’s ban on most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy went into effect on Wednesday. The state’s Supreme Court cleared the way for the Republican-backed law but also ordered that a ballot measure legalizing abortion must go before voters this November.
