While oil painting is not new to me, painting clouds and sunsets is something way out of my comfort zone. Here is a time lapse of a partially invented cloudscape oil painting that is the first of numerous experiments on the subject of clouds.
I started by making a sketch in charcoal in order to decide on the composition. I used a photo taken with my cell phone as a reference, but changed things since I didn’t like the shopping center that was in the picture. Then, I started with thinned-down oil paint on a 8” x 10” Gessobord, and completed it in a few layers.
What do you think about the results? If you have any questions you’d like me to answer in my next cloudscape video, put them in the comments below. Thanks for watching!
