In November 2022 alone, 29372 new registrations of EVs were added.
Here’s the thing. At this point in time, they are far from eco friendly. In fact, there’s reasonable data to back up that they are actually worse than ICE vehicles.
A huge growth factor in new electric vehicle adoption isn’t at all being driven by free market demand, and is instead as a result of the government’s huge push into EVs. Whether you’re self employed or an employee, there are massive tax benefits that come with a supposedly eco friendly low emission car, making a petrol car make no economic sense.
Electric cars also don’t pay road tax, which is ridiculous since they are heavy and wear down roads just like any other car. In essence if you own a petrol car, you’re paying for EV owner’s wear on the road network.
This is without even talking about the low emission zones, which make owning a petrol car in certain areas so expensive that you’re left with no option but to get an EV.
Fuel duty currently stands at over 50p per litre, which is yet another way the government squeezes the life out of petrol vehicles.
