In this YouTube video, Bentinho Massaro explores formless awareness, free will and our ability to shift our state at will. He explains that while we may identify heavily with our bodies, personalities and beliefs, there is an essence of awareness that remains constant and formless. This awareness has the ability to create, produce, and believe in whatever we choose, without losing its essential formlessness.
Bentinho likens formless awareness to water, which has the power to flow and take different shapes, but always maintains its inherent nature. In the same way, we have the power to shape our experiences and beliefs, but the underlying essence of awareness remains unchanged.
As human beings, we often unconsciously compartmentalize and “freeze” our free will due to our societal conditioning. We divide ourselves into different parts and stow them away, limiting our creative power and potential. Bentinho suggests that we can thaw out these frozen portions of ourselves by bringing greater awareness to them, thus reclaiming our free will and increasing our spiritual power. This often involves looking at aspects of ourselves that we may not want to acknowledge or confront.
Concentration is another way to gather our will. Since being in a mostly frozen state leads to scattered thoughts and actions, concentrating our attention gives us the focus we need to feel our true selves, to notice our own existence, and to experience a sense of centeredness and homecoming.
