With intense wildfires and deforestation rapidly increasing, fewer trees are available to absorb carbon dioxide, which cleans the air and reduces the harmful effects of CO2.
Some scientists believe genetically modified trees could be a possible fix. Some say altering a tree’s DNA would allow the tree to grow twice as fast, absorb twice as much carbon in half the time, and sequester even more carbon from the atmosphere to slow down the climate crisis.
But this doesn't come without controversy.
